Rejoice with the Lord in Kindergarten
April 27, 2012
Our week:
Jesus time: this week we rejoiced in the confidence that God is with us everywhere. We can trust all of His promises, especially His promise of salvation. We read the Great Commission in Matthew 28. We talked about how God is with us as we tell others about His Son.
Literacy: this week we reviewed /en/, /ed/, /et/ word families. We worked on synonyms, rhyming, deleting the first letter of a word and replacing it with another letter, reviewed nouns, segmented sounds, worked on retelling a story, inferring what the author meant when he wrote the story, summarized story events, and we categorized.
Math: This week we concluded our study of adding and subtraction. Please continue to practice these skills at home.
Discovery: we are working on learning about our Earth that God created.
Other: this week we are working towards the completion of our Fish Book. Presently, we are working on the illustrations. Just a reminder about our Author’s Night on Wednesday, May 9 at 6:00 p.m. On that night, your child will be sharing with you their story and how they wrote their story. It is a very exciting night for your child. Please save the date and mark it on your calendar.
The students worked in groups of two-they were working on how to make decisions as a group. It was so cool to walk around and here their “work talk.”
Book of the Week: “The Run Away Pancake”
Letters: /m/, /s/, /r/, /t/, /c/, /d/, /n/, /a/, /g/, /f/ /i/, /l/, /h/, /b/, /k/, /o/, /w/, /x/, /v/, /j/, /e/, /y/, /z/-review sounds and letter formation of these letters.
Popcorn Words: are words the students need to be able to read quickly without sounding the words out. Please review these words at home with your child each week. Under a separate attachment, you will find flash cards to print and cut apart for your child to practice reading. They need to read the word immediately upon seeing the word. The children will be assessed the words that are printed below.
