LEARNING TO KNOW JESUS
A Workshop for Parents of 3-Year-Olds
Thursday, August 11th
6:30 p.m. in Trinity's Gathering Room

At your child’s baptism, solemn promises were made. You, as Christian parents, agreed to “provide for your child’s instruction in the Christian faith.” Hopefully, from the day you brought your child home, you have been seeking and taking opportunities to nurture and cultivate the seed of faith that was planted into the heart of your child by the power of the Holy Spirit in baptism. By teaching your child to pray, by reading Bible stories, and by listening to and singing songs about Jesus and the Bible with your child, you can begin early the process of Christian education in your son or daughter, a process that has no endpoint in this life.

Other promises were made at your child’s baptism, too. The congregation of Trinity promised you that you would be supported and encouraged in this life-long process of Christian education. Trinity promised to provide you with everything you need to make this God-given responsibility a reality in your family.

To that end, Trinity’s Board of Family Ministry, along with Trinity’s Early Childhood Department, invite you to come to a special workshop for parents of all our 3 year old children. This one-evening workshop will take place here at Trinity (in the Gathering Room) on Thursday, August 11th at 6:30 PM. At this workshop, you will have an opportunity to

  • learn about ways in which you can make your home a faith-enriching haven for your family,
  • learn about developmental characteristics of 3-year-olds and how this relates to faith,
  • consider marriage enrichment ideas that will keep the husband-wife relationship strong while learning this whole “parenting” thing.
  • fellowship with other Trinity families with 3 year olds for a casual dinner together

Snacks and beverages will be provided. On site child care will also be available by members of Trinity’s LYF (high school youth). We will conclude our evening no later than 8:30 PM.

In order to emphasize the significance of your child beginning formal Christian education through out day school or through our Sunday School, we will be recognizing these children at the 8 or 10:30 AM service on September 11th and presenting them with a gift book with their name, birth date, and baptismal date noted inside its front cover. You may want to invite your child’s baptismal sponsors to be present with you in church that Sunday and to join with you in renewing the commitment made at baptism. We hope this will also be a time of blessing for you and your family as we recall and celebrate the gift of God’s love given in baptism.

Also on that day, at 9:30 AM our Sunday School will be holding its Rally Day. This will be an intergenerational Sunday when all ages will come together to learn about our Lord and to meet their Sunday School teachers.

So, plan on having a full day on September 11th with your family in Christ at Trinity. Worship with us at the 8 or 10:30 AM Service, and attend Sunday School Rally Day at 9:30 AM. If you have any questions, please call Rick Adams (414-461-4099) or Stacy Johnson (262-502-0817) for more information.
