SWD Local man recalls 1926 St. Louis seminary dedication | At 94 years old, Walter Buescher recently saw an ad from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in the South Wisconsin News that triggered an “I remember when” moment.
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo.
Walt remembers being present at the dedication of the seminary on a hot, humid day in 1926. “I was a boy of about 12 years old,” he recalls. “About 30 train cars brought people from all over the country to the dedication. It was beastly hot and attendees consumed bottles of soft drinks that were served from tank cars. That farmland area west of St. Louis had no trees or grass,” he said.

Paul Crolius sent a letter of thanks for the prayers and gifts of God's people of the South Wisconsin District. " A great blessing that has come out of the flooding is that many people have assisted in helping and have come together to encourage and help one another. It is not too late to make a donation to the South Wisconsin District to be directly applied to affected LCMS congregations in our area. SWD LCMS president's response to California Supreme Court ruling on same-sex 'marriage' |
Office of the President
Rev. Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick
The recent decision of the California Supreme Court legalizing same-sex "marriage" highlights the downward spiral of moral values that is becoming so prevalent in our culture. This most recent action contravenes not only the Judeo-Christian values that have defined the moral compass of this great nation, but also the laws of nature and the natural reproductive process.
In the face of such moral decline, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has consistently upheld the Bible-based values that designate "marriage as the lifelong union of one man and one woman (Genesis 2:2–24; Matthew 19:5–6)" (2004 LCMS Convention Resolution 3-05a).

SWD Vision for Spanish Bible with Luther’s Catechism becomes a reality | The missions department had a wonderful surprise the week of June 8 when Lutheran Heritage Foundation (LHF) executive director, Rev. Dr. Bob Rahn stopped by to visit with Rev. Dan McMiller. Rahn announced that 11,000 Spanish Bibles, with Catechisms included, are now in print and he presented a few copies to the District.
