Men's Ministry

5th Annual Men's Retreat at Tree of Life

OCTOBER 28-30, 2016

Trinity Lutheran Freistadt Men's Ministry hosts an annual men's retreat every October at Tree of Life Retreat Center in Greenbush, Wisconsin.

The Men's Retreat has three main objectives:

1) For men to grow as individuals in their relationship with God.  This year's Bible studies will be based around the theme of becoming Tender Warriors, based on the book Tender Warrior by Stu Weber.

2) For men to develop and strengthen their friendships with other Christian men;

3) For men strong in their relationship with Jesus to develop cross-generational mentoring relationships with young men, encouraging them in the Christian faith and modeling for them how to live as disciples of Christ.

This is accomplished through outdoor activities like hunting, golfing, hiking, fishing, archery and biking, as well as enjoying meals and fellowship with one another during the retreat, and especially as men open God’s Word together during Bible studies, worship and prayer time. Men are encouraged to bring their teenage sons at a significantly reduced cost.

Owned and operated by St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, the Tree of Life Retreat Center offers an incredible venue in the heart of the Kettle Moraine, with Long Lake, the Highlands Sportsmen’s Club, and Quit Qui Oc Golf Course each only minutes away.

2016 Registration Costs:
Adult men $150
Teenage sons $25

Includes 3 days/2 nights accommodations and meals; tent camping is also an option for a reduced registration fee (see Rick about this.)

Canoeing, Kayaking and Fishing at Long Lake

Long Lake is a short drive from the retreat. Long Lake is a 3-mile long impoundment of the East Branch of the Milwaukee River. The lake has relatively clear water and is stocked by DNR and the Long Lake Fishing Club. An accessible fishing pier and shoreline fishing opportunities are in the Long Lake Recreation Area, as well. A state park vehicle admission sticker is required, which can be purchased for $7 on site.

Men's Retreat participants are welcome to bring their own canoe or kayak and put in at the Long Lake Recreation Area.

Clay Shooting and Pheasant Hunting

The Highlands Hunt Club, owned and operated by TJ Sommer, is located in Cascade, only about 15 minutes away from the Tree of Life Retreat.  Men's Retreat participants can choose to shoot clays and/or hunt pheasants.

Golf at Quit Qui Oc Country Club

Quit Qui Oc is owned and operated by Todd Montaba, a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, and located in Elkhart Lake, about 20 minutes from the retreat.

Hiking and Biking

The Tree of Life Retreat is located in the heart of the Kettle Morraine State Forest in Sheboygan County.  In late October, the trees are at their peak of autumn color, and the hiking trails are spectacular.

All outdoor activities are optional and their associated costs are not included in the registration fee.  Other than three scheduled Bible study sessions and Sunday morning worship, Men's Retreat participants may spend their time at their choosing, including relaxing in the spacious and beautiful Tree of Life Retreat, sleep, read, listen to music, shoot pool, play cards, etc.
