6th Annual Men's Retreat at Tree of Life

NOVEMBER 3-5, 2017

Trinity Lutheran Freistadt Men's Ministry hosts an annual men's retreat every fall at Tree of Life Retreat Center in Greenbush, Wisconsin.

The Men's Retreat has three main objectives:

1) For men to grow as individuals in their relationship with God.  This year's Bible studies will be based around the theme of VOCATION.  The great Christian reformer Martin Luther wrote and preached extensively on the topic of Christian vocation - how every man, woman, and child is called, equipped, and empowered to WORK for the glory of God, regardless of station of life or occupation.

2) For men to develop and strengthen their friendships with other Christian men;

3) For men strong in their relationship with Jesus to develop cross-generational mentoring relationships with young men, encouraging them in the Christian faith and modeling for them how to live as disciples of Christ.

This is accomplished through outdoor activities like hunting, golfing, hiking, fishing, archery and biking, as well as enjoying meals and fellowship with one another during the retreat, and especially as men open God’s Word together during Bible studies, worship and prayer time. Men are encouraged to bring their teenage sons at a significantly reduced cost.

Owned and operated by St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, the Tree of Life Retreat Center offers an incredible venue in the heart of the Kettle Moraine, with Long Lake, the Highlands Sportsmen’s Club, and Quit Qui Oc Golf Course each only minutes away.

2017 Registration Costs:
Adult men $150
Teenage sons $25

Includes 3 days/2 nights accommodations and meals; tent camping is also an option for a reduced registration fee (email Rick about this.)

Activities

Archery

Trinity member Lyle Alft is an accomplished archer and instructor of archery.  He will be on hand with all the necessary equipment and targets to give you a lesson and help you to learn this great sport.  Or perhaps you are already experienced with the bow, in which case you can simply enjoy the opportunity to shoot.

Canoeing, Kayaking and Fishing at Long Lake

Trinity is again honored to have Mr. Caleb Niedfeldt join us for our retreat.  Caleb heads up a ministry called FISHING FOR THE HEART, a mission to introduce kids to fishing, while strengthening their relationship to God and deepen their appreciation and respect for His creation.  Caleb will be leading three separate 3-hour fishing excursions at a nearby lake for up to 4 guys at a time.  There is an extra $50 charge per person for this opportunity.  A one-day fishing license is also required.

Men's Retreat participants are welcome to bring their own canoe or kayak and put in at the Long Lake Recreation Area.

Clay Shooting and Pheasant Hunting

The Highlands Hunt Club, owned and operated by TJ Sommer, is located in Cascade, only about 15 minutes away from the Tree of Life Retreat.  Men's Retreat participants can choose to shoot clays and/or hunt pheasants.   There is an extra cost of about $175 for the pheasant hunt, and about $30 for the clay shooting experience.

Golf at Quit Qui Oc Country Club

Quit Qui Oc is owned and operated by Todd Montaba, a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, and located in Elkhart Lake, about 20 minutes from the retreat.   Weather permitting, we will be forming groups for a round of golf on this very nice course.  Green fees are approximately $40 for 18 holes and a cart.

Hiking and Biking

The Tree of Life Retreat is located in the heart of the Kettle Morraine State Forest in Sheboygan County.  In late October, the trees are at their peak of autumn color, and the hiking trails are spectacular.

Relax

All outdoor activities are optional and their associated costs are not included in the registration fee.  Other than three scheduled Bible study sessions and Sunday morning worship, Men's Retreat participants may spend their time at they wish, including relaxing in the spacious and beautiful Tree of Life Retreat, sleep, read, listen to music, shoot pool, play cards, etc.
