It’s the 500th anniversary year of the Lutheran Reformation.  And so it’s no coincidence that we have chosen the New Testament book of Romans as the year long theme of our weekly sermons in church, as well as our topic of discussion in both T3 and our small groups.  For Martin Luther, Romans was the game changer.  In it he discovered the riches of God’s grace and mercy, heretofore missing from Luther’s understanding of the Bible and of the author of the Bible, God Himself.  Paul’s letter to the Romans contains those hallmark verses that illuminated Luther’s understanding….

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus  Romans 3:21-24

Romans is so rich in theology and so necessary for each and every Christian to read, learn, and understand.  As the Constitution is to the American, so the book of Romans is to the Christian.  Here’s what Luther himself had to say about this book:

“This letter is truly the most important piece in the New Testament. It is purest Gospel. It is well worth a Christian's while not only to memorize it word for word but also to occupy himself with it daily, as though it were the daily bread of the soul.”  from the Preface to the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans by Martin Luther

Last year, Pastor Carl told you that, upon undertaking a yearlong study of The Story, you’ll grow like you’ve never grown before.  We pray that his has been true for you.   The Story gave you the entire story arc of God’s plan of salvation from Genesis to Revelation.  What Romans will provide is a rich understanding of God’s relationship to us through his Son, Jesus Christ.  We pray that you will join us in this journey.

Session 1

The Word Became Flesh

Wednesday Mornings, 9 a.m. in the Gathering Room
Led by Marjorie Kreienbrink

Begins September 20th

This year, Marjorie Kreienbrink’s Wednesday morning Women’s Bible study group explores the Gospel of John.  A gospel is Good News from God...Good News about the

incarnation, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. John believed that Good News with his whole being. It changed his life. It gave him life, real life. He wanted everyone to share that life. And so as an old man, close to death, he put his experience and his understanding of God's Good

News in writing. His purpose was to ignite and to strengthen faith, as he himself tells us: "Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name"

(John 20:30-31).

You’re invited to join Marjorie and her group each Wednesday as they continue this study from last spring.

Armour of God

The Women in the Word Bible Study Group
Led by Lori Scheck in the Gathering Room
Friday Mornings, 8:30 a.m. Beginning September 22nd

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you. A cunning, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you - your emotions, your mind, your family, your future. But...when the enemy meets a woman dressed for the occasion, he fails miserably. On Friday mornings at 8:30a, beginning on September 15th, Women in the Word will join Priscilla Shirer in a 7-session video Bible study that will challenge you to suit up, stand firm, and secure victory in your life.

The Gospel of Mark

servant hearted, kingdom-minded

Saturday Mornings, 7:00 A.M. in the Gathering Room
Led by Rick Adams

Many people who are great by the world's standards or who are in positions of authority lord their greatness over those they consider below them.  Often such people expect to be served.  But not our Lord Jesus.  The Lord of heaven and earth took on the lowly form of a man to serve humanity and to sacrifice His life to ransom people from sin, death, and Satan.  The Gospel of Mark speaks to us today about

  • this suffering Messiah;
  • the meaning of His sacrifice and resurrection for us;
  • His call to us to follow Him in a life of servanthood and sacrifice.

Our Saturday morning Bible study is a relaxed and informal setting for any guy who is looking to begin or maintain a regular study of God's Word.   You can add to the discussion as frequently as you like, or you can simply sit, listen, and take in the discussion from others.  This is a perfect study for someone who has never actually been in a Bible study before, or for someone who's a seasoned veteran of Bible studies.

Plus, there's always good breakfast snacks, plenty of coffee, and lots of laughter too.  We're done by 8 a.m., so you have your whole Saturday in front of  you!  No need to sign up or register, just show up - we'll have a chair for you around the table.
